McCain, Clinton Lead Polls on Eve of Votes

Hillary Clinton and John McCain lead their fields 1 day before important contests in Nevada and South Carolina, Reuters reports. In Nevada, a Reuters/Zogby poll puts Clinton up 42% to 37% over Barack Obama, with John Edwards at 12%. In South Carolina, the poll has John McCain at 29%, ahead of Mike Huckabee at 22% and Mitt Romney at 15%.

Republicans have votes in both states tomorrow, though their focus is on the South Carolina primary. Democrats will compete only in the Nevada caucuses. The latter is "a very competitive race, but it will depend on organization," said pollster John Zogby. "This is a caucus without much history to go on, so we have to see who can do the best job of turning out their vote."
