Howard Kurtz took to his own show today to face the music over his Jason Collins flub, turning to the camera and apologizing, reports Politico. “This time the media mistake was mine—a big mistake, more than one in fact," said Kurtz, who denied that he lost his gig at the Daily Beast over the post, saying that "an amicable divorce was already in the works." “This is not a ritual for me where you just come on camera and say you’re sorry and hope to move on. I’m truly sorry about what happened. I believe deeply in good journalism and fair journalism and I am determined to learn from this episode and minimize the chances of anything like this happening again.”

Politico's Dylan Byers, who grilled Kurtz along with NPR's David Folkenflik, brought up three other factual errors Kurtz has made in recent years, asking "why so many mistakes?" Responded Kurtz, "In my career I have written, spoken, blogged millions of words. The vast majority of those have been as accurate as humanly possible. But there are times, being a human being, when I have slipped up. I ask people to look at the totality of my record, but it is certainly fair to point out where I have fallen short."
