The Ottawa Senators ended a two-game losing streak Thursday, but not all the news was good for the top team in the Eastern Conference. Antoine Vermette scored two goals, but captain Daniel Alfredsson had to leave with a hip injury in a 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, reports the Ottawa Citizen.

The Senators, who lead the East with 64 points, are already without high-scorer Dany Heatley, who will miss six weeks with a separated shoulder. No announcement was made how long Alfredsson may be out. Randy Robitaille, Mike Fisher and Jason Spezza also scored goals for the Senators, who sent the Hurricanes with their fourth straight loss.
