TSA Delays Lifting Ban on Small Knives

The TSA has decided that now isn't such a great time to ditch its post-9/11 ban on small knives in aircraft cabins. The agency says it is delaying the policy change—which had been set to go into effect Thursday—to get more feedback from law enforcement and passenger advocates about what should be allowed in aircraft cabins, USA Today reports.

The rule change would have applied to knives with blades shorter than 2.36 inches in length and less than half an inch wide, as well as sports equipment including baseball bats and golf clubs, NBC reports. The TSA says the delay is only temporary, but it has come under pressure to not relax the rules. "All knives should be banned from planes permanently," a coalition of flight attendant unions said in a statement. (More Transportation Security Administration stories.)
