Politics / John McCain McCain, Graham Slam Paul's 'Ridiculous' Filibuster Republican senators call it a cheap political stunt By John Johnson, Newser Staff Posted Mar 7, 2013 1:05 PM CST Copied In this Feb. 14, 2013, photo, John McCain talks with Lindsey Graham on Capitol Hill. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite, File) Rand Paul may be winning praise for his Senate filibuster, but two of his Republican colleagues hated it. John McCain and Lindsey Graham took to the Senate floor themselves today to criticize the talk-a-thon, with McCain calling it "ridiculous" and Graham arguing that it "cheapened" the debate on drones, reports the Hill. McCain: He took particular exception to Paul's rhetorical question about whether the US might drop a missile on Jane Fonda for disagreeing with government policy. "To infer that the president is going to kill someone like Jane Fonda or someone who disagrees with him is simply ridiculous. If someone is an enemy combatant, that enemy combatant has nowhere to hide, not even in a cafe.” Graham: “This president is not going to use a drone against an innocent person sitting at a cafe because it would be illegal. It would be murder.” Graham also called out Republicans who helped Paul keep the filibuster moving. “I don’t remember any of you fellow Republicans coming down here and saying President [George W.] Bush was going to kill anyone with a drone. But we had a drone program back then ... so what is it that’s got you so spun up now?” (More John McCain stories.) Report an error
