An Australian customer's gone-viral complaint that his "footlong" Subway sandwich came up a little short prompted a response from the chain there today, reports ABC News. It must have been loads of fun for the marketing department:
- “'Subway Footlong' is a registered trademark as a descriptive name for the sub sold in Subway Restaurants and not intended to be a measurement of length."
The chain swears it shoots for 12-inch sandwiches—even in locales, like Australia, that use the metric system—but they sometimes vary because of the baking process particular to each restaurant. (The
New York Post found that sandwiches sometimes come up about an inch short in this country, too.)
