Images From Today's 9/11 Ceremonies

President Obama honored the 11th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks today, observing a moment of silence at the White House and laying a wreath at the Pentagon before visiting graves of recent war dead from Afghanistan and Iraq at Arlington National Cemetery. "Our country is safer, and our people are resilient," Obama said in a ceremony at the White House.

Hundreds gathered at the World Trade Center site in New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, to read the names of the dead. This year marks the first time no elected officials spoke at the New York ceremony, and just about 1,000 attended compared to thousands in previous years. Vice President Joe Biden spoke at the Shanksville site, noting, "No matter how many anniversaries ... the terror of that moment returns." (More September 11 stories.)
