New TV Remote: Blinking Your Eyes

Too lazy to push a button on your remote? An innovative new device may be up your alley. The Eye Control TV, produced by a Chinese manufacturer, can change channels, adjust volume, and power down by sensing blinks, reports the Daily Mail. Now in its prototype form, the gadget requires a bulky sensor that nearly extends the length of a coffee table. But don't worry about regular blinks: The sensor ignores them, and they will not affect your channel-surfing.

When you set up the Eye Control TV, you must calibrate it by watching a circle move around the screen. Then you can activate the sensor with a long blink, which brings up a menu. To shift volume, you look down and stare at the minus or plus controls. Tech blog Engadget tested the contraption and called it a "compelling concept" but not quite ready for prime-time, mainly due to its learning curve and oversize sensor. (More Eye Control TV stories.)
