The calls are raining down for Todd Akin to bow out of his Senate race after opining that "legitimate rape" victims were not at risk of getting pregnant, but the Missouri Republican says he's staying put. "I'm not a quitter," he said on Mike Huckabee's radio show today, according to the Washington Post. "My belief is we’re going to move this thing forward. To quote my friend John Paul Jones, I’ve not yet begun to fight."
Akin also took the opportunity to backtrack further. "I really just want to apologize to those that I've hurt, " he said. "I was talking about forcible rape, and it was absolutely the wrong word." Many top Republicans have called for Akin's exit, including Scott Brown, who told the Boston Globe that Akin's comments were "outrageous, inappropriate and wrong," and Ron Johnson, who called them "reprehensible and inexcusable." The National Republican Senatorial Committee says it told Akin it won't spend money supporting him, the Post reports, and neither will Crossroads GPS, sources tell Politico.
