Police disabled a trip wire and successfully set off another triggering device today at the booby-trapped apartment of Dark Knight suspect James Holmes in Aurora, Colo., MSNBC reports. They sent in a robot to disable the trip wire with an explosive water-bottle device, notes the Denver Post. The second controlled demolition blew out parts of the apartment window. "I personally have never seen anything like what the pictures show us is in there," a deputy fire chief tells AP.
Federal experts are providing help. It seems that Holmes set up trip wires—connected to jars of liquid and mortar rounds—to kill law-enforcement authorities investigating his place. He even set up booming music on a timer that ran for about an hour around the time of the shooting, possibly to trigger a visit. And yet it was Holmes himself who alerted police to the danger upon arrest. Click to read about how the suspect may have posted a profile on an adult website. (More James Holmes stories.)
