Overheard in the Hamptons: Mitt Romney telling wealthy campaign donors that "if you’re here, by and large you’re doing just fine." Romney told supporters at the fundraiser that he wasn't too worried about them, or himself; instead, "I spend a lot of time worrying about those that are poor and those in the middle class that are finding it hard to make a bright future for themselves."

Journalists weren't invited to the fundraiser, but a CNN reporter caught the remarks made under a tent. Romney dismissed the notion that Republicans care only about themselves, according to CNN. "Democratic friends are always taking the high road," he noted. "We want to help the poor. But what we want to do is not just help; we want to help people from becoming poor." The remarks bear some similarity to Obama's "private sector" comment, which Romney didn't much like, CNN notes. (More Mitt Romney stories.)
