A man hiding behind a surgeon's mask, sunglasses, and ball cap says America is locked in a life-or-death struggle with only one good outcome: the overthrow of Iran's government. Calling himself Reza Kahlili, he clams to be a former CIA double agent once ensconced in Iran's Revolutionary Guard, the Los Angeles Times reports. The CIA won't comment, but GOP Rep. Peter King and a former agency analyst are vouching for him. "I thought I knew a lot about Iran until meeting with him," says King.
Kahlili advocates his position in a memoir, blog, and think tank speeches, warning that Tehran has planted terrorist sleeper cells in the US who will strike if Iran is attacked. "You'd be shocked by how easily agents from the Revolutionary Guard come and go inside the United States every day," whispers the soft-spoken man in his fifties. He adds that Iranian agents would "kill me if they could find me." For now, he's lying low with his family in California. "I have a lot of anxiety—I feel a lot of pressure," he says. "Sometimes I think I should stop. I think I must be crazy." (More Iran stories.)
