Dharun Ravi offered today what the judge in his high-profile invasion-of-privacy case chided him for withholding: an apology. Ravi called his decision to spy on Rutgers roommate Tyler Clementi "stupid" and said he would turn himself in to begin serving his 30-day jail sentence on Thursday, reports the New Jersey Star-Ledger. Clementi killed himself after Ravi spied on him in their dorm room with a man. Ravi could have waited on a pending appeal before heading to jail, but said he wanted to get the sentence over with and "go on with my life."
His full apology: "I accept responsibility for and regret my thoughtless, insensitive, immature, stupid and childish choices that I made on September 19, 2010 and September 21, 2010. My behavior and actions, which at no time were motivated by hate, bigotry, prejudice or desire to hurt, humiliate or embarrass anyone, were nonetheless the wrong choices and decisions.
