As Mitt Romney prepares to officially clinch the Republican presidential nomination, another important item on today's to-do list: Meet with Sheldon Adelson. The billionaire casino magnate donated $20 million to the pro-Newt Gingrich super PAC before a broke Gingrich left the race, but it is not known if he has yet donated to Romney, CBS News reports (Politico says he has not). The two will meet at Adelson's Las Vegas offices in his Venetian Hotel.
While Adelson has indicated he will support the eventual GOP nominee, and has even specifically said he would donate to Romney's cause, Adelson has also gotten in a few digs at Romney, the Daily Caller notes. In March, he called him "not the bold decision-maker" Gingrich was, and even compared him to President Obama. Sources tell Politico the last meeting between Adelson and Romney didn't go very well, but Romney could use Adelson's help: The super PAC supporting him, Restore Our Future, pulled in just $4.6 million last month, its weakest so far.
