The horrific history of Charles Manson and his followers could soon be rewritten. The Los Angeles Police Department has asked for eight hours of decades-old audio recordings that could link the Manson family to more murders, reports NBC Los Angeles. The tapes feature conversations between Manson's former right-hand man, Charles "Tex" Watson, and Watson's lawyer Bill Boyd, and they have never before been heard by law enforcement.
Boyd, who died three years ago, began working with Watson in 1969 and the recordings are resurfacing because his firm is now in bankruptcy court. "The LAPD has information that Mr. Watson discussed additional unsolved murders committed by followers of Charles Manson," wrote Chief Charlie Beck to the Department of Justice. Watson, who is serving a life sentence for the murders of Sharon Tate and others, sold the tapes in 1976 to a chaplain who used them to write a book. (More Charles Manson stories.)
