If Joran Van der Sloot hoped his guilty plea in the killing of Stephany Flores would win him a light sentence, no such luck: A court in Peru sentenced him to 28 years today—he faced a maximum of 30—and ordered him to pay a $75,000 fine to Flores' family, report Fox News and the AP. The sentencing comes a day after a US judge declared Natalee Holloway dead. Van der Sloot remains the prime suspect in her 2005 disappearance, and her parents are still pushing for him to be extradited to the US to face trial. (More Joran Van der Sloot stories.)
