Floyd Mayweather Jr. defended his welterweight crown against British challenger Ricky Hatton last night in 10 rounds. The 147-pound champion showed more punching than dancing, as Hatton kept on the offensive—contrary to the predictions that the bout would be a boring one. Before an overwhelmingly British crowd, Mayweather came through on his guarantee of a knockout.

The "Hitman" wasn't connecting as solidly or as often as he might have hoped, and finally "Pretty Boy" Floyd floored him with a left hook. When Hatton struggled to his feet, Mayweather came back with a second volley, and the Brit went down again. Hatton's corner threw in the towel just as the ref called the fight for Mayweather, who later hinted at retirement. (More Floyd Mayweather Jr. stories.)
