Oilers on slick footing after 4-3 loss to Blues, Ducks flying high with 5-3 win v. Blackhawks

A 4-2 loss to the Ottowa Senators dropped Dallas to a 2-4 record for the past week, as once again one of the best teams at the power-play kill fell short with one man down. "We battled hard, and we couldn't get a break," Stars coach Dave Tippett lamented to the Dallas Morning News. Elsewhere in the world of hockey:

  • "We have to bounce back," said Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish after Thursday's  home loss, but the Oilers found themselves outplayed again as St. Louis came up with a 4-3 advantage.
  • Anaheim's new lease on the season started even before Scott Niedermeyer stepped onto the ice, as the Ducks scored three unanswered goals en route to a 5-3 victory over Chicago.
