Michael Tomasky was delighted with the latest Iowa poll. Not because Ron Paul was on top, but because "my man Rick Santorum has made it to the promised land of double digits." Sure, he claimed just 10%, but Tomasky thinks it’s finally time for a Santorum boomlet, he writes in the Daily Beast. Paul, after all, is sure to fall: "Somewhere deep down in those capacious souls of theirs, Iowa conservatives must know that if they made Paul the nominee, he’d win about 11 states."

Santorum, meanwhile, is "kosher with all three wings of the party, neocons, theocons, and pluto-cons," and has actually campaigned heavily in Iowa. Yes, he lost his last election by 18 points. But he has none of the glaring flaws of his competitors. "He isn’t dumb (Perry). There is no way in heaven or earth that he is a philanderer (Cain). He doesn’t feed off bombast (Gingrich). … And finally, he’s not Mitt Romney." Click to read the entire column. (More Rick Santorum stories.)
