A trio of loaded Connecticut businessmen dropped $1 on a lottery ticket, and won an extra $254 million for their trouble. It’s the biggest payout the state’s lottery has ever awarded, the New York Post reports. The three owners of an asset-management company were in no rush to pick up their prize, it seems: They accepted it yesterday after a month in the shadows, driving lottery officials to put up billboards seeking the winners.
One of the winners, Tim Davidson, bought the ticket at a gas station, which wins $100,000 for selling the ticket. “Christmas comes a little early this year,” said its owner. Davidson and fellow victors Brandon Lacoff and Greg Skidmore arrived in a giant limo to pick up their giant check. They’ve established a trust to handle the money; it will receive $103.5 million in cash after taxes. Much of the money will go to charity, said the men’s lawyer. “This is going to benefit many people.” (More lottery stories.)
