The latest preview for Gabrielle Giffords’ interview with Diane Sawyer, which airs on ABC tonight at 10pm, includes riveting scenes from Giffords’ rehabilitative therapy. In one, Giffords sings; in another, she breaks down in tears; in a third, she takes her first halting steps. They’re especially compelling when contrasted with images from the interview of a smiling Giffords who, at one point, reaches over to fix Sawyer’s hair.
Husband Mark Kelly provided the exclusive home videos to ABC; he documented the process so that Giffords could someday see what happened to her. He says he and Giffords will make a final decision as to a reelection run by the filing deadline, May 2012. Also within the next year, they will decide whether to continue trying to have a baby together, a process they had begun before the shooting. In one particularly touching scene from the interview, Giffords chooses one word to describe her husband: “brave.” Replies Kelly, “That's what I think of when I think of you, too.” (More Gabrielle Giffords stories.)
