Welcome to the age of "unintended celebrity," writes Pell. "There's a new reality show and you're the star, whether you like it or not."
As for Andy Boyle, the couple's fellow diner who tweeted all the details, he may have thought he was "listening to a marriage disintegrate," as he wrote. But "he was really hearing the crumbling of his own ethics and self-restraint," writes Pell. Can't we have some standards in this new age? Otherwise, bad judgment combined with ever-improving technology threatens to "turn every human exchange into another tawdry and destructive episode on a never-ending social media highlight reel."
