It looks like Anonymous may not be quite so eager to take on the Zetas as advertised. The plans for “Operation Cartel” have “fallen into disarray,” the Guardian reports, with two members announcing that they were backing out for fear of getting someone killed, and other Anonymous members questioning the sanity of the scheme. “They denounced the op after safety concerns,” tweeted one hacker. Another replied: “The fear that surrounds this idea is astounding. Fairweather revolutionaries?”
Some hackers even questioned whether the Zetas had actually kidnapped an Anonymous member, as the original video claimed. “Not one person can name the victim, the date or a witness,” one tweet pointed out. Still, a site called Anonymous IberoAmerica says it’s going to assemble a “special task force” to carry out the op. “Do we fear for our lives? Obviously,” the site said. “Notwithstanding that, we think it is time to say ‘enough.’” They're currently asking for tips identifying cartel members. (More Anonymous stories.)
