Cameron Douglas has pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs into jail in the middle of a sentence for heroin possession and meth trafficking. "God knows I'm sorry about this situation," Michael Douglas' 32-year-old son said in a Manhattan courtroom yesterday. Douglas was taken from prison and is being held in a nearby jail during testimony against a drug dealer, which was part of a plea deal that landed him a five-year rather than a 10-year sentence last year. A guard nailed him in jail with what appeared to be cocaine and heroin, reports AP. Douglas admitted that he has had drugs in prison since May.
He pleaded guilty in exchange for an expected additional 18 months behind bars, but the judge warned him he faces a possible maximum of 20 years when he's sentenced later this year, reports the New York Post. The FBI is investigating how he managed to use drugs in two federal facilities. Dad Michael issued a statement saying his eldest son has made "much progress" battling his addiction," but he's "still not cured." Most "people and their families are able to address this illness privately and outside of the spotlight," the actor added. "Unfortunately, this has not been possible here."
