With the lockout officially cutting into the NBA season, would LeBron James consider suiting up for the NFL? Probably not, but the King is definitely stoking speculation. Last week his highness donned his pads and practiced with the Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary high school team, then tweeted that it “felt great being back on the field. Should I?” Last night he took it a step further, asking ESPN NFL guru John Clayton via Twitter when the deadline to sign free agents was.
That caught Pete Carroll’s eye. “Hey @KingJames, are you aware of what the league’s rookie minimum is?” he asked. LeBron’s reply: “Yeah, more than I’m making now, coach.” After some banter about what position he'd play, Carroll said, "I like it! maybe you should head over to #TheU & I'll set up a workout for you to catch a few balls." The whole conversation has set tongues wagging. Clayton talked about it on SportsCenter, USA Today notes, offering James this advice: “Sign with any team besides Philadelphia. You want to stay away from those 'Dream Teams.'” (More LeBron James stories.)
