More than 260 people were injured today when two subway trains collided in central Shanghai, a government official says. Most of the wounds were bruises and bone fractures, and none were critical, Reuters reports, but one passenger says that “blood was everywhere."
The accident occurred after a signal failure, while staff were directing trains by phone. It has prompted a public outcry, seeing as it comes just two months after another, deadlier train crash in China. “Another accident—what a joke,” wrote one commenter on the country’s Sina Weibo website. “So much money has been spent, all they've built is crap.” (More China stories.)
