Facebook Overhauls News Feed

Facebook rolled out a dramatic new redesign today, that’s designed to turn Facebook into “your own personal newspaper.” Gone is the option to toggle between “Top Stories” and the “Most Recent” updates; now the stories Facebook deems “Top Stories” will always be on top, while a real-time ticker in the upper right displays updates as they occur. “You won’t have to worry about missing important stuff,” the company’s blog assures us.

The Top Stories section will be sensitive to how recently you’ve logged in, showing older stories if it’s been a while since your last visit. The update also comes with a host of other changes, like the ability to group friends as on Google+. But so far users don’t seem enamored of the changes; the first post on Facebook’s blog post reads, “Lame. Quite frankly, I don’t want Facebook deciding who is most important in my life.” It currently has 1,709 likes. (More Facebook stories.)
