Virginia Tech has lifted a security alert after police found no trace of a reported gunman, reports the Richmond Times Dispatch. The campus in Blacksburg canceled classes after children visiting for a day camp told police they thought they saw a man with a handgun. University officials issued an alert in the morning telling students and employees to stay inside behind locked doors, notes AP. The alert, which raised memories of the 2007 shooting spree on campus, remained in effect for about five hours. (More Virginia Tech stories.)
