Mountaineers take Big East crown, aim for BCS title game

Fourth-ranked West Virginia snagged the Big East title and climbed in the polls last night with a decisive 66-21 win over No. 20 Connecticut. The Mountaineers amassed 624 yards, 186 of them on rushing by quarterback Pat White, reports the New York Times. "The only way they lose is if they turn the ball over," lamented UConn's coach.

Both White and teammate Steve Slaton surpassed 1000 yards rushing during the game, and the word "Heisman" is on many West Virginians' lips. The triumphant Mountaineers face Pittsburgh next week, and a win then will all but ensure a BCS berth. That space opened up on Friday, when top-ranked Louisiana State failed to outlast Arkansas in a triple-overtime marathon.
