Ask someone which American company they most loathe, and chances are they'll struggle to pick just one: The Atlantic rounds up the "19 Most Hated Companies in America" based on the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Airlines, telecoms, and power companies make frequent appearances. Some of the worst offenders:

  • Pepco (No. 1): Potomac Electric fared worst with a 54/100 satisfaction rating, thanks in part to long and frequent outages.

  • Delta Airlines (No. 2): All those extra fees help give Delta the lowest rating (56/100) among airlines. (American, United, and US Airways weren't far behind.)
  • Time Warner Cable (No. 3): It scored a weak 59/100 for the usual big-cable reasons.
  • Facebook (No. 10): Privacy concerns and redesigns led to a 64/100 rating.
  • AT&T (No 14): Too many dropped calls in big cities gave it a 66/100.
  • JPMorgan Chase (No. 15): Its 67/100 was just barely worse than Bank of America, which came at No. 19 (68/100).
