"Paula Brooks," the outspoken editor of lesbian news site Lez Get Real, has revealed that he is actually a 58-year-old straight man. Questions about Brooks' identity began to surface over the weekend because of the site's links to blogger "Gay Girl in Damascus," who turned out to be an American man, reports the Washington Post.
Bill Graber says he started the site in 2008 after a lesbian couple he knew were mistreated. He adopted the persona of a lesbian woman because he feared he wouldn't be taken seriously otherwise. The connection to "Gay Girl in Damascus" is a coincidence, and they often flirted online, neither realizing that the other was impersonating a lesbian, he says. Graber says he hopes the revelation won't harm the site or the causes it supports. He plans to turn over management of the site to a lesbian contributor. (More Lez Get Real stories.)
