A new, stubble-sporting Stephen Colbert turned his wit on Sarah Palin’s bus tour last night, getting in some barbs in a short segment, the Huffington Post reports. After running a clip of the media questions surrounding the trip, Colbert quipped, “That’s the power of Sarah Palin. No matter what she does, America starts asking, ‘Why is this happening?’” For an “unfiltered, unbiased” view of Palin’s trip, Colbert recommends reading Palin’s website.
That’s where he found this gem: Palin wrote that after a visit to Mount Vernon, daughter Piper was awed by the “diverse interests” George Washington had. “She told me later ‘how hard he must have worked to keep that farm going!’” Colbert stated the obvious: “It’s true. I cannot imagine how hard he worked, with no help other than his African volunteers.” The website also urges fans to donate to the trip. Colbert chimes in: “Won’t you help Sarah Palin learn basic facts about US history for just pennies a day?” (More Sarah Palin stories.)
