Chilling detail from the Casey Anthony trial today: A neighbor testified that Anthony borrowed a shovel to "dig up a bamboo root" two days after Caylee was last seen alive, reports AP. The testimony came after prosecutors grilled a string of Anthony's friends to drive home a point: She sure didn't act like a concerned mother during the time Caylee was either missing or already dead, reports the Orlando Sentinel. "She was your average 22-year-old girl," said one male acquaintance, a roommate of Anthony's boyfriend at the time. "She seemed normal, happy, like everything was fine," said another roommate. They testified that she liked to party and that she deflected questions about Caylee—the toddler hadn't been reported missing yet—by saying she was with a "nanny."
Prosecutors are staking out a timeline to show that Casey Anthony moved into her boyfriend's apartment in June 2008, during the month that she delayed reporting her daughter's disappearance. The defense came up with a surprise explanation for that delay yesterday: They allege that Caylee was never missing because she drowned in the family pool.
