DA: At Least 2 Killers in Long Island Deaths

Long Island officials on the trail of a suspected serial killer now say that at least two murderers are behind the string of human remains found in a desolate beach area. Suffolk County DA Thomas Spota said today that different killing methods and circumstances indicate the work of at least two suspects: "As distasteful and disturbing as that is, there is no evidence that all of these remains are the work of a single killer."

Remains include the severed head and hands of a prostitute found along Ocean Parkway—her handless, headless body was found some 40 miles away in Manorville in 2003. The remains of another prostitute hacked to death were found in Manorville in 2000, reports the AP, and parts of her were found along Ocean Parkway last month. Other remains in Suffolk County include a man and a female child between 18 and 24 months old. (More Long Island stories.)
