Garridos Plead Guilty in Jaycee Dugard Kidnapping

There won’t be a trial in the Jaycee Dugard case, after all: Philip and Nancy Garrido each pleaded guilty today to kidnapping and sexual enslavement, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. “I am relieved that Phillip and Nancy Garrido have finally acknowledged their guilt and confessed to their crimes against me and my family,” Dugard said in a statement. Now 30, she was kidnapped and held by the couple for 18 years and had two daughters by Philip.

The pleas mean she and her girls won’t have to take the witness stand to discuss the tragedy. After pleading guilty to one count of kidnapping and 13 counts linked to sexual assault, Phillip Garrido faces a maximum sentence of 431 years to life in prison. In a deal that hinged on her husband’s guilty plea, Nancy will see 11 years for kidnapping, plus 25 years to life for rape. It’s “extraordinarily unlikely” that the 55-year-old will leave jail in her lifetime, said the DA. "All in all, we're very satisfied with the outcome,” he said.
