Four elementary school children in Washington, DC, have been hospitalized after ingesting cocaine brought to class by a friend. That student has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. The ages of the children, all in good condition, have not been released, but the generally well-regarded Thomson Elementary School runs from preschool to fifth grade. Some of the children ate the cocaine, while others snorted it, according to officials. "This is really shocking to me," said one parent. But "I love this school, so I'm not going to say that the school is responsible."
A little boy told his mom that there was "naughty medicine in the school." This "is not a situation that is typical at Thomson, and we take it very seriously, " the principal wrote in the letter to parents. The Washington Post recommended the school for President Obama's daughters when the family moved to the White House, and called it an educational "gem," reports ABC News. (More cocaine stories.)
