Mike Modano's two goals last night helped his Dallas Stars lock in a 3-1 win against the San Jose Sharks, and gave Modano the title of top American-born scorer. Modano slipped his second goal of the game through the legs of Evgeny Nabakov to bring his career total to 511, reports the Dallas Morning News.  In other Western Conference games:

  • The Phoenix Coyotes needed all but 31 seconds of overtime to defeat the Anaheim Ducks, 6-5. Rookie Peter Mueller's hat trick helped tie it up in the third period.
  • Overtime wasn't enough for the Colorado Avalanche, who beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout.
