A three-hour standoff at North Carolina bank ended when police shot a teenage bank robber dead. The robber, a 19-year-old high school student, at one point held seven hostages inside the suburban Raleigh bank, the Raleigh Telegram reports. He released five hostages after police arrived. As he exited the bank holding a gun to the head of another female hostage, police opened fire, hitting him in the chest several times. The hostage was unharmed. "This is not how we wanted it to end, but we’re happy to have all the hostages home safely tonight," said the local chief of police in a statement. (More bank robber stories.)
