Seventeen years ago, Trevell Coleman shot a man. Last week, "trying to get right with God," the rapper known as G-Dep walked into a New York City police station and confessed to the cold case—only unknown to Coleman, he was actually confessing to a murder. "I was surprised—for some reason, I really didn't think that he died," Coleman tells the New York Post. "When they told me, I was like, 'Oh, I'm not going home after this.' " He faces life in prison.
A onetime rapper on Diddy's Bad Boy label, Coleman has a checkered history with drugs, and says at the time of the shooting, "I didn't think about it," but that it later "weighed on me. I started to wonder if all the bad things that happened to me in my life were karma for what I did. I thought that if I turned myself in, it might give me closure." Yeah, maybe Coleman felt guilty, says top cop Ray Kelly, but "We'll take it any way we can get it." (More G-Dep stories.)
