Before committing suicide, Tyler Clementi appears to have told his story on a gay message board, and the posts indicate that he emailed his RA and two superiors to report his roommate’s spying. Now, prosecutors want to see those emails—or at least Rutgers University’s responses to those emails. The prosecutor’s office subpoenaed copies of the emails to see how the school handled Clementi’s complaint, after investigators felt that the university was not fully cooperating, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for roommate Dharun Ravi issued a statement stating he is “confident that nothing will be learned to justify, warrant, or support” the rumored hate crime charges against Davi and Molly Wei. Friends of the pair also spoke up, telling People the high school friends are nice people who got caught up in a prank and “didn't think about the consequences,” says one.
